After Nancy’s retirement from parish ministry and Rich’s retirement from military service, we bought a home on the St. Lawrence River in Upstate New York which we named River Respite Benedictory (“place of blessing”). We set aside the upper floor as a chapel, library, icon studio, and guest room for clergy and vowed religious..

We are happily and blessedly retired and offer River Respite Benedictory and Benedictory Icons as our ministry to clergy and vowed religious.  Through the Benedictory we offer hospitality, retreats, and ministry support services.  Benedictory Icons offers icons, icon retreats, and iconography classes

Nancy is a retired ELCA (Lutheran) Pastor and a licensed clinical social worker. She has served as a pastor in parish, interim and hospice settings, as a social worker for persons living with HIV/AIDS, and as a psychotherapist in private practice specializing in clergy and clergy families and in trauma recovery after 9/11. She enjoys writing and teaching the writing of icons in the Byzantine Orthodox tradition and loves to cook in any tradition.

Richard is a life professed member of the Brotherhood of St Gregory (ECUSA) and a retired US Army Lt. Colonel. He is gifted with an irrepressible sense of humor and experienced in the many skills that a leader must have. Occasionally he practices his trumpet, and is completing CE courses in Anglican Studies from the Graduate Theological Union, U.C. Berkley. He continues to wash dishes in any tradition.
